Reseña:  Interesante vuelta de tuerca sobre Holmes, interpretado puntillosamente por John Neville, contra Jack el Destripador, "un ícono para atrapar a otro ícono", según comenta Mark Jones en el ensayo "Jack the Representation: The Ripper in Culture", publicado en "Neo-Victorian Villains: Adaptations and Transformations in Popular Culture" (Koninklijke Brill, 2007), que lo cita por ser el primer largometraje en mencionar los nombres auténticos de las víctimas del temible destripador. Curiosamente la novelización del filme, publicada en 1966, en que la historia del dr. Watson es leída o interpretada por Ellery Queen, arribaba a una conclusión diferente a la del filme.
