Selig Polyscope Company: Compañía productora fundada en 1896 por William Selig en Chicago, Illinois. Con tres estudios operativos (New Orleans, Edendale y Chicago), en 1909 Selig (junto con varios estudios más) pacta con la Edison la creación de la Motion Picture Patents Company que dominó la industria a través de su compañía distribuidora, la General Films Company. Entre los hitos logrados por Selig se pueden mencionar la primer versión del Mago de Oz (1910), la primera puesta en pantalla de Tarzán y el primer serial, THE ADVENTURES OF KATHLYN (1913). También fue hogar de los primeros cowboys, Gilbert M. Anderson (Broncho Billy) y Tom Mix. En 1918 la Suprema Corte determinó que la Compañía de Patentes consistía un monopolio, motivando el fin de la Selig. |
